Uba Sani pays tribute to late Kuwait emir, applauds his humanitarian interventions in Nigeria

   

Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, says Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, the late emir of Kuwait, helped in boosting his country’s humanitatiran intervention in Nigeria.

The former Kuwaiti leader’s death was announced on Saturday.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his chief press secretary Muhammad Shehu, the governor commiserated with Abdelaziz Albisher, Kuwait’s ambassador to Nigeria.

Sani described the late emir as a visionary leader and great statesman, saying Nawaf led the oil-rich nation with uncommon courage and commitment.

The governor said the deceased leader transformed Kuwait into an “exemplary” nation with “unprecedented” development, peace and stability.

“We are saddened by the news of the loss of the legendary Emir. Kaduna State is a leading partner of Kuwait in Nigeria,” the statement said.

Sani said the late emir’s vision “led to the expansion of Kuwait’s humanitarian interventions in Nigeria” and that “Kuwait’s interventions have helped to bring succour to the poor, underserved and vulnerable”. 

“The legacy of the late emir will surely endure,” he added.

“On behalf of myself, my family and the people of Kaduna state, kindly accept our heartfelt condolences. 

“We pray fervently for the repose of the gentle soul of Sheik Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. 

“May the Almighty Allah give the ruling Sabah Family and the Kuwaiti people the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

Following the late Kuwaiti leader’s demise, President Bola Tinubu described the monarch as a man of great compassion, peace, and mercy, and one who granted amnesty to political prisoners and dissidents.

Kuwait has announced 40 days of mourning, directing government offices to close for three days.

Mishal, the 83-year-old crown prince, has been named as Nawaf’s successor.
